Yes, you read it: we went to a flea market!!
Well, actually this is not the entire truth: since we arrived in Australia we have been to more than one flea market. It’s a sort of attraction for us.
Anyway here is the testimony of the first Australian flea market we visited!
Ellen and Zac (our Airbnb host in Melbourne and now friends!) took us to the Camberwell flea market. We share with them our passion for vintage stuff, especially furniture, so of course we were very happy of joining them for a nice stroll on a perfect Sunday morning.
The flea market takes place every Sunday at Camberwell, a 30-40 minutes tram ride from the CBD, and it’s organised by the Rotary club, with charitable aims. (check all the details here).
You can find second-hand or hand-made objects, furniture and clothes.
There are some permanent stalls and other casual ones. Matteo of course loved the ones that sold musical instruments or objects: old and vintage speakers, vinyls, turntables… There were many book sellers, but luckily when we visited I hadn’t started buying books in English, so I didn’t buy any (I started recently, so next time we go to a flea market I’ll have to make sure not to take too much money with me!!!).
There were some huge boxes through which one can rummage in search of any kind of stuff: from old toys, like little dinosaurs, toy-cars and figurines, to matches, tin boxes, scarves, bags, shoes…
It was a lovely day, with a lot of happy people, warm sun and music.
