We are really sorry for the disappearance, but our last month has been quite intense. We moved again!
And this time the move was big: all the way to Australia.
After our last post we were busy meeting and greeting family and friends, finishing a huge amount of diy (that we will be sharing in the next weeks, probably even months!), packing all our belongings and trying to organise the first week in Melbourne.
It was a tough decision: starting over again and being so far from our dear ones are the hardest things. But we couldn’t stand not taking this opportunity. So here we are, at the beginning of our new adventure Down Under.
After an almost-24-hours journey we arrived in Melbourne on a Wednesday night. We were really tired and all we could think about was a nice long sleep. A week before the departure we booked a room through Airbnb. We got at Ellen and Zac’s place really late: a cute apartment, filled with vintage finds. We couldn’t be happier: they were great, kind and helpful. We stayed with them for almost ten days and luckily we made our first Aussie friends.
The first days we were busy with paperwork, opening a bank account, getting a phone number and fighting against a terrible jet lag. Once we got that done, we started looking for a place we could call home. We are now used to this, it has become a sort of routine for us, but anyway the search was long and quite frustrating at times. After contacting hundreds of ads, receiving a lot of no’s, and seeing some not-very-liveable houses, we finally found a place. It is a tiny house we share with another couple, in a nice neighbourhood, not far from Queen Victoria Market, thus really in the heart of the city.
Apart from ordinary moving business (which includes the current search for a job) we are starting to discover the city. We have been walking a lot and enjoying the ever-changing weather. So far we are liking the atmosphere a lot: Melburnians are very nice and in general the people is friendly. The city has a lot to offer and we are looking forward to see it all.
We will be sharing as much as we can, so stay tuned!
